Make Uganda Visa Photo

The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control lists the photo requirement as 'Recent Passport-size Photograph taken in the last 6 months'. That phrasing appears across the tourist visa, the multiple-entry visa, the student pass and the other categories, and it is the whole of it.

There is no published width or height, no pixel minimum, no file-size ceiling and no stated background colour. So this page does not print one. The editor uses a standard passport frame because that is what 'passport-size' means in practice, but it is a reasonable default rather than a Ugandan rule.

Uganda's own step list ends with reporting to the immigration office or the border for biometric capture, bringing the uploaded documents, payment receipts, approval letter and passport. The photograph you attach online is part of the application file; the face and fingerprints that go on the record are collected face to face.

That changes what the upload is for. On portals where the uploaded image becomes the biometric — China's, India's, Malaysia's — the pixel rules are strict because the file is the record. Where the record is captured in person, the upload only has to identify you well enough to process the paperwork, which is exactly the level of precision Uganda's wording reflects.

It is worth knowing before you spend time perfecting a crop. Getting a clean, recent, passport-style photo is enough; there is no hidden pixel test to pass.

Uganda also participates in the East African Tourist Visa, valid for Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda together. You apply through whichever of the three countries you enter first, which means the photo rules you face are that country's, not a shared East African standard.

Kenya's eTA asks for a selfie or passport-type photo with no specification. Rwanda's IremboGov asks for JPG under 500KB on a white background. Uganda asks for a recent passport-size photograph. None of the three publishes dimensions — but the file rules differ, so check the portal you are actually using.
