Türkiye's biometric photo measures 50mm wide by 60mm high. Because the frame is taller and wider than the 35x45mm ICAO photo, the head does not fill as much of it: a head of roughly 34mm sits with about a 10mm gap above the hair.
This catches people out in both directions. A photo cropped to ICAO proportions is too narrow, and a photo cropped so the head fills the 60mm height leaves your face oversized for the format.
Plain white or light background; avoid light-coloured tops.
The background should be plain white or light-coloured with even lighting and no shadows. Türkiye's guidance specifically warns against uniforms and extravagant outfits.
Avoid white or very light clothing. Against a white background, a light shirt makes your shoulders disappear and the outline of your head becomes ambiguous — a mid-tone or dark top photographs far better.
Minimum 300 DPI, accepted in print and digital form.
The photo needs a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. A 50x60mm print at 300 DPI works out to roughly 590x709 pixels, and anything materially below that will look soft when printed.
Both printed and digital submissions are accepted, depending on whether you apply at a consulate or online. Save the file at full quality either way — you may need to print it later.
Neutral face, eyes open, no glasses.
Keep your eyes open and look directly at the camera with a neutral expression — no smiling, frowning or grinning. Your head should be straight, not tilted or turned.
Glasses and any accessory that hides part of your face are not allowed. Head coverings are permitted for religious and medical reasons, as long as your face remains fully visible.
