Oman Visa Photo Requirements, Explained

A 4x6cm photo on a white background, uploaded through the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal.

Quick Check: Do's & Don'ts

Don't Use 35x45mm

Oman's frame is 4x6cm — a different shape.

No Sunglasses

Nothing obscuring your eyes.

Plain White Background

Evenly lit, no shadow behind your head.

Colour Photo

Black and white images are not accepted.

The Royal Oman Police eVisa Portal

Most Oman visas are applied for online before travel.

Oman visas are issued through the Royal Oman Police eVisa system, so the photo is a digital file you upload with the application rather than a print handed over at a counter.

Save the file this tool produces and upload it directly. Photographing a printed copy with your phone introduces reflections and colour casts that make the background read as off-white.

The 4x6cm Format

40mm wide by 60mm high — taller than an ICAO photo.

Oman uses a 4x6cm photo, the same frame as Vietnam, Indonesia and Bahrain. It is noticeably taller than the 35x45mm photo used across Europe, so a spare passport photo will be the wrong proportions.

Your head measures roughly 32-36mm chin to crown inside that frame, which leaves more space above and below than you may expect.

Background & Lighting

Plain white with no shadow.

The background must be plain white with nothing behind you — no patterns, furniture edges or other people. Stand about a metre from the wall so you do not cast a shadow onto it.

Use even, frontal light. A face lit from above picks up shadows in the eye sockets that make biometric checks less reliable.

Expression & Head Coverings

Neutral face; religious coverings permitted.

Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed and both eyes open and clearly visible.

Head coverings worn for religious reasons are accepted provided the full face stays visible from the chin to the top of the forehead. The photo must have been taken within the last six months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.What size photo does an Oman visa need?
4x6cm (40x60mm) on a white background — a taller frame than the 35x45mm ICAO photo.
Q.Can I use a standard passport photo?
Not if it is 35x45mm. The proportions are wrong for Oman's 4x6cm frame.
Q.How do I apply?
Through the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal, which takes the photo as a digital upload.
Q.Are head coverings allowed?
Yes, when worn for religious reasons, as long as your full face from chin to forehead stays visible.
Q.Is this the same as a UAE or Qatar visa photo?
No. The UAE uses 43x55mm and Qatar uses 3x4cm. Each Gulf country publishes its own size.
