3.8x4.6cm — three millimetres wider and one taller than the photo you probably have, and that is enough to fail.

The 38x46mm Trap

Almost the same as 35x45mm, and rejected anyway.

Myanmar's e-visa photo is 38mm wide by 46mm high. Set next to a standard 35x45mm passport photo the difference is three millimetres in one direction and one in the other — invisible by eye, and enough for an automated check to reject the upload.

This is the main reason Myanmar applications fail on the photo. If you have spare passport photos from anywhere else in the world, they are almost certainly the wrong size.

The Three-Month Rule

Myanmar halves the usual recency window.

Nearly every country accepts a photo taken within the last six months. Myanmar's e-visa guidance says three.

In practice that means a photo you used for another application earlier in the year may already be too old. Take a fresh one rather than assuming the usual window applies.

File Requirements

JPEG, PNG or BMP; 300 DPI minimum; under 1MB.

The digital photo must be at least 300 DPI and under 1MB, in JPEG, PNG or BMP format. Published pixel bounds run from 400x600 as a minimum to 800x1200 as a maximum.

Those maximum bounds matter as much as the minimum: an oversized image can be rejected just as an undersized one is. Export at the size the portal asks for rather than uploading a full-resolution camera file.

Framing & Expression

Full face, front view, 3-4mm above the head.

The photo must show a full face in front view with both eyes open and the head centred in the frame, with 3-4mm of space between the top of your head and the top edge.

Use a plain background and a neutral expression with your mouth closed. Colour photos only.
