Colombia's guidance sets a minimum head height of 30mm within the 40mm-tall frame — around 75% — with a minimum of 2.5mm between the top of the head and the top edge.

That is a tight crop. A photo taken from across a room, then cropped in, will not have the resolution to hold up. Have someone photograph you from about a metre and a half away instead.

The 3x4cm Format

30mm wide by 40mm high.

Colombia uses the 3x4cm frame shared with Qatar, Azerbaijan and the Ethiopian passport. It is smaller than the 35x45mm photo used across Europe and North Africa.

If you have spare passport photos from elsewhere, measure them before assuming they will work — the shape is genuinely different, not just slightly smaller.

Applying Online

Colombian visas are applied for through the Cancillería portal.

Colombia handles visa applications online through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal, so the photo is a digital upload submitted with the rest of the file.

Upload the saved file directly. Photographs of prints pick up colour casts that turn a white background grey, which is one of the easier ways to have a file returned.

Background & Expression

White background, neutral expression, eyes open.

The background must be white, plain and evenly lit, with no shadow behind your head. Stand about a metre from the wall.

Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed and both eyes open and clearly visible.
