Make Azerbaijan Visa Photo

Most countries publish photo rules as guidance on a portal. Azerbaijan publishes them as legislation: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reproduces article 36 of the Migration Code, and clause 36.1.3 reads "Two color photographs (3x4cm) matching with biometric identification requirements".

Two things follow. The 3x4cm frame is the same one the ASAN e-visa uses, so a single crop covers both routes. But if you apply at an embassy or consulate rather than online, you need two identical prints of it, not one.

The phrase "matching with biometric identification requirements" is doing the work that a list of millimetres does elsewhere — it points at the ICAO geometry rather than restating it, so face square to the camera, neutral expression, eyes open and unobscured.

Nearly every country asks for a passport valid six months from your date of entry. Azerbaijan measures from somewhere else: the Migration Code requires your passport's validity to exceed the validity period of the visa you are applying for by at least three months.

That means the answer depends on which visa you request, not on when you land. A longer visa pushes the passport requirement further out.

The MFA repeats this as a standalone "Attention!" note below the document list, which is a fair sign of how often it catches people.

Azerbaijan's ASAN Visa system issues e-visas online, usually within a few working days, so the photo is a digital upload rather than a print.

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes its own photo requirements page — worth checking directly, since relatively few countries at this size publish one.

Azerbaijan uses a 3x4cm photo, the same frame Qatar, Colombia and the Ethiopian passport use. It is smaller than the 35x45mm photo used across Europe, so a spare passport photo is the wrong shape.

Because the frame is small, the head needs to fill most of the height for the features to remain usable. The minimum pixel size is 354x472, which is 3x4cm at 300 DPI.

Azerbaijan's guidance specifies a non-reflective background — an unusual phrasing that rules out glossy backdrops and shiny painted walls that catch the light.

A plain matte wall in soft, even light is what you want. Avoid photographing against glass, a whiteboard or gloss paint.

Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed and both eyes open and clearly visible.

Head coverings worn for religious reasons are accepted provided your full face from the chin to the top of the forehead stays visible. The photo must be recent — within the last six months.
