Unlike most countries, Australia requires one of your two identical printed photos to be signed on the back by an eligible guarantor — someone who has known you for at least a year and belongs to an approved occupation category (this isn't required for the photo itself, but it's an essential part of a complete application).

The background must be plain white or light grey, with no patterns, textures, or visible shadows. Even, diffuse lighting helps avoid shadows falling on your face or behind your head.

Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed, and both eyes open and clearly visible. The photo should have been taken within the last 6 months.
